圖書館的願景

相信很多人都聽過策略規劃 (Strategic Plan)，其中多會包括組織的使命、願景、及目標…等，最近我們館也為了要重新擬定圖書館的願景(Vision) 而開了好幾次會議。這期間看到 DUKE 大學圖書館的策略規劃，對他們的願景，Connecting People + Ideas，印象十分深刻。

不過前幾天看到 The Shifted Librarian 提到 Des Plaines Public Library 的願景時，也同樣讓我佩服不已。下面是取自 Jenny Levine 所拍的照片：

在看到上圖的 Vision Statement 時，很清楚可以看出他們所要達成的使命為何。但我特別對 Catalyst 這個字有興趣 😉 一開始以為是「催化劑」，認為圖書館做為讀者學習新知或發展知識的催化劑也很合理，終於跳脫圖書館只能扮演連結讀者與資源的功能。

查了一下字典，發現 catalyst 有許多解釋：

1. Chemistry. a substance that causes or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected.
2. something that causes activity between two or more persons or forces without itself being affected.
3. a person or thing that precipitates an event or change
4. a person whose talk, enthusiasm, or energy causes others to be more friendly, enthusiastic, or energetic.

後面這二個解釋，我覺得還蠻適合用在這裡的 － 促成讀者的改變。
