「圖書館資源探索的未來」白皮書

相信有許多圖書館已經購買資源探索系統，更多的是在試用階段。相信負責測試的館員會覺得怎沒有一套完美的系統，或者質疑系統廠商對搜尋結果或結果的呈現會偏好自己內容。如果能有一套標準，對廠商或對圖書館會不會比較好呢?

美國 NISO (National Information Standards Organization, 美國國家資訊標準組織) 在今年2月底發佈了一份名為「圖書館資源探索的未來」的白皮書，它是由 Discovery to Delivery(D2D) Topic Committee 委託 Marshall Breeding 撰寫，希望看看是否在某些方面能夠標準化。

D2D 主席 Pascal Calarco，也是 University of Waterloo副館長，做了以下的表示：

“The D2D Topic Committee focuses on issues regarding the finding and distribution of information by and to users and, among other tasks, identifies where new standards may provide solutions in this area and creates and provides guidance and oversight to working groups under its purview. We are appreciative that the paper, in addition to an extensive background section, includes significant sections on gap analysis, opportunities for future enhancements using various emerging technologies, and discovery beyond library-provided interfaces, which will provide rich material for our decisions on NISO projects in 2015 and beyond."

這份白皮書的內容包括了目前資源探索環境掃描、技術、及產品，並對未來的發展提供一些建議，特別是與 linked data有關的領域。同時也探索建立 open source discovery interfaces 及 open access central indexes 的可能性，最後也針對 Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) 下階段可能的發展提出建議。

雖有此白皮書，也有 ODI 工作小組，但未來是否真能有結果，其結果是否會應用到產品上，看來還有一段很長的時間。
