Endangered Libraries T-shirt

先不論電子書或Google對圖書館的威脅，光是經費短缺就足以讓圖書館無法生存下去。感覺上現在經濟好像有點好轉，但我們還是常常看到美國各地不斷有圖書館因經費刪減而面臨關閉。

例如阿拉斯加州最大城市安克拉治市因為預算遭刪減，在12月11日關閉了一間歷史最久的圖書館分館。

為了喚起社會大眾對圖書館面臨預算不足而被迫關閉的問題， ALA 根據一位紐澤西州圖書館員 Andy Woodworth 的靈感而設計了一件 Endangered Libraries T-shirt。衣服上的圖案是從 WWF(世界野生生物基金會) 所獲得的靈感，把大貓熊、黑犀牛等瀕臨絕種的動物與圖書館擺在一起，意謂著圖書館也正面臨生存危機。

這款 T-shirt 在 ALA的網路商店可以買的到(link)，只是不曉得賣的如何? 能夠達到宣傳理念的效果如何? 不過還是看看 Woodworth 怎麼說：

In a changing climate of funding and support, the public library is under a constant pressure that threatens its very survival. I hope this shirt is a reminder to librarians, library patrons and the public at large that the library serves as a valuable community resource for education, research, literacy and much more. If it goes away, society as a whole will be poorer for its loss.
