2010美國圖書館設計展示

Library Design Showcase 是 American Libraries Magazine (AL) 在每年4月一個重要的活動，且已經有超過30年的歷史。AL 會展示所精選出來全美各類型圖書館新建或整修後的建築物設計。今年(2010) 年的 Library Design Showcase 共分為底下10類，每類都有6,7件到20件不等的案件。

底下僅自 Library Design Showcase 網頁挑出幾張印象較深刻的照片:

1. Building Community
   
   While the second through fifth floors offer a traditional library environment, the first floor of the University of Nevada at Reno’s Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center facilitates group collaboration, with a 100-computer general computing area, 25-seat computer instruction lab, media lab with fiber channel connectivity, a 25-seat studio classroom optimized for capturing instructional sessions for digital streaming, and two videoconference suites. 2. Green Libraries
   
   Los Angeles Public Library anticipates that its new Silver Lake branch will achieve LEED Gold certification. The building incorporates photovoltaic cells in the skylight system and solar panels cover most of the concealed roof areas; rapid-growing bamboo was used for custom casework and flooring; and materials and systems were selected to reduce fluorocarbon and toxic vapor emissions.

   Darien Library 沒有流通櫃臺，全部由自助借書機及自動分檢機來處理還書。

6. Themes and Styles
   
   The main design of Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, pays homage to traditional basketry of the American Indians of central California. Materials selected for the building include local woods and native granite. The Ellipse, as this section of the building is known, is often used for events and exhibitions.
7. Learning Spaces
   
   The bright, nature-themed children’s area at the Queen Creek branch of Maricopa County (Calif.) Library
8. Let There Be Light
   
   A cedar solar screen covers the two-story reading room at New Castle County (Del.) Libraries’ new Kirkwood Public Library, permitting views out and allowing diffused sunlight in, but minimizing direct light and reducing the load on the air conditioning system. (LV：光線及視野應該都很棒才對 :))

    The Goucher College Athenaeum in Baltimore. (LV：很懷念以前晚上在圖書館讀書的感覺，夜間的圖書館真的很美。)
