Open Book Alliance 網站上線了

上週有關 Google 和解案的熱門新聞不外乎是 Microsoft、Yahoo 等組織所組成的 Open Book Alliance，今天注意到它已經有正式的官方網站推出了。

在會員方面，除了原先報導中的 Microsoft、Yahoo、Internet Archive 及 Amazon 外，也看到了許多圖書館學會參與其中，包括 New York Library Association 和 Special Libraries Association。

如果再看 Open Book Alliance 的使命，不難發覺它擺明就是衝著 Google 來的：

The Open Book Alliance will counter Google, the Association of American Publishers and the Authors’ Guild’s scheme to monopolize the access, distribution and pricing of the largest digital database of books in the world. To this end, we will promote fair and flexible solutions aimed at achieving a more robust and open system.

也就是說他們要對付 Google、美國出版商協會、美國作家協會在龐大數位書籍上分銷和定價上的壟斷，並希望藉由促進公平、靈活的解決方案，來達到一個更加強大和開放的制度。

在陸陸續續有許多團體站出來公開關切或反對和解案的情勢下，看來在10月的和解案聽證會前 Google 會面臨更多且有如排山倒海的反撲力量。我想這些反對或許是件好事，畢竟它真的影響到太多的產業的發展，不論是圖書館或出版業，當然還有它的競爭對手。有關 Open Book Alliance 及 Google 和解案(Google Book Settlement) 都可以在網站上找的到，http://www.openbookalliance.org/。
