Marshall Breeding 最近在 Library Technology Guides 發表了一篇題名為 “Open Systems in the age of Library Services Platforms: Meeting expectations for interoperability and extensibility." 的文章，檢視了幾個聲稱開放性，並提供免費API 的新一代圖書館自動化系統。
文章從好幾個面向檢視Ex Libris Alma、OCLC WMS、及FOLIO三個圖書館服務平台，相信對正在評估系統的圖書館會有一點幫助。下圖是擷取自文中的一個表格，顯示這三個系統的 interoperability characteristics。
比較值得一提的是 In-platform apps這一項，目前只有Alma有這個功能，可以在Alma 的web管理介面安裝Cloud Apps，圖書館可自行開發或者使用其他館分享出來的 Cloud Apps。下面是2020年7月發佈 Ex Libris Cloud Apps時的一個demo影片，有興趣的人可以看一下。
文章在最後的總結提到，圖書館自動化系統的開放性程度涉及許多因素，並不是說開源的系統就一定有最高程度的開放性。
