Thinkering Spaces

隨著傳統圖書館的式微(? :))，有許多計畫正在探索著未來圖書館的樣子，曾經介紹過丹麥的 The Transformation Lab 便是一例。最近看到 Jenny Levine 連續二篇文章 (1, 2) 介紹 Thinkering Spaces，也是同樣讓人看到圖書館未來可能的新面貌。

Thinkering Spaces 是一項由美國麥克阿瑟基金會(MacArthur Foundation) 贊助，伊利諾理工大學設計學院 執行的計畫，目前已經建立一個雛型，讓各型圖書館可以依需求很快設置起來相對便宜、可移動性的 collaborative space。當然，這樣子的空間難免也要應用一些新的科技，例如 RFID 的應用，還有特別的是這項計畫中也應用了 Johnny Chung Lee 的 wiimote hacks 來建立一個便宜的 drag-and-drop 環境。(相信有許多人看過 Lee 的影片了)

Levine 在部落格中提到，這項計畫的重點是要藉由這樣子的空間，讓人們可以在圖書館原有提供的內容之中，加以合作(collaborate)，然後可以產生出新的內容混搭，再分享給社群的人。

It’s a way to connect people with the physical world and help them make sense of it by interacting with and changing it. It’s another instance where the library adds value to the equation (the same way it does with books and now games), offering an experience you can’t replicate at home, borne of the community. … It takes the focus off technology and puts it back onto the people.
