Podcasting 入門指南

SirsiDynix Institute 在5月份接連二場seminar 由 Louisville Free Public Library 的 Greg Schwartz 談 Podcasting 入門指南，討論的項目為下:

• 第一場 seminar
  • What is it and what’s all the fuss about?
  • Why should I care?
  • What’s out there waiting to be heard?
  • How do I tune in?
  • How can I find the content that matters to me?
• 第二場 seminar
  • Why would my organization podcast?
  • What types of content could we podcast?
  • Who else is doing it?
  • How do we do go about it?

除了 Podcast 的介紹外，上面的 seminar 在如何訂閱、製作…等議題上都有詳細的說明，也有不少圖書館利用 Podcasting 的例子。

podcast 這個字中被 新牛津美語字典 (Oxford American Dictionary) 選為 2005 年「年度新字」(Word of the Year) ，但在圖書館領域的應用始終有所侷限，在台灣好像還沒有圖書館推出 Podcasting 服務 (有的話請告訴我一下) 。雖然說技術上並不困難，但很明顯的立即會遇到幾個問題：

• 製作成本問題：或許有些免費的製作工具，但從計劃、錄製、編輯、發佈、到推廣.. 前後後也要花費不少的人力。
• 版權問題：雖然 podcasting 可以搭配身份驗證，其下載也可以有 DRM 技術的支援，但就版權上是否允許如此做? 還是要付更多的錢? 或是原創者已經找不到了?
• 是否持續提供服務：我們常看到有些服務一開始很熱，但過了一陣子就不見了，所以圖書館在 Podcasting 前應該要仔細評估，不要為了 podcast 而 podcast。
